Game Artisans is a great art community that runs the Comicon Challenge. This year I’ve decided to enter. Things are about to get pretty busy so hopefully I’ll be able to finish on time. There’s lots of great artists there so be sure to check it out. Click on the banner below to follow my progress.

After buying the Art of Avatar book, I was inspired by the amazing work of Jordu Schell. In particular his concept sculpture of Neytiri. I decided I wanted to do my own sculpt of Neytiri and try to capture the same feeling that Jordu Schell had created in his sculpture. I had a lot of fun creating her, the most challenging and time consuming part was modelling and positioning her braided hair. I recorded some of my sculpting sessions and will be uploading a timelapse and a turntable of Neytiri soon.
I decided to try something a little different with this piece. After doing a sculpt of a male torso I had an idea to create a graphic design inspired 3d image. The image was created by combining different render passes of both a high and low polygon mesh then combining them in Photoshop and painting a background. You can check them out by clicking on the images below.
I finally got around to texturing and rendering the Alien bust I sculpted a few weeks ago. I tried a new texturing technique with this one and I’m pretty pleased with the result, although a lot of the finer details are lost a bit in the render.
